What is the Concept of Useful Negative Thinking?

Under normal circumstances negative thinking is not acceptable as it has been proven to be harmful and can lead to unfavorable emotions such as depression, frustration, anger and more. Believe it or not, there have been times when negative thinking can actually help in a positive way. Sometimes negative thoughts have a hidden layer of positive in them.
Most times we can be so busy focusing on negative thoughts that we miss the positive parts. Therefore it is necessary to understand that negative emotions are not always harmful. When seen in a positive light, they can actually help us deal with life in a better way.
As an example, useful negative thinking can be extremely beneficial when you need to be motivated to get over a hurdle in a specific project. There are times when negative emotions and feelings tend to bring out the best in you. Just last week my neighbor, Frank, was concerned about meeting an important deadline on a current construction project. The week before the deadline he kept focusing on the fact he wouldn’t be able to make a deadline for the first time in his new job. One of his colleagues was working on a similar project and close to completion. Frank was not fond of his colleague, Jason, due to his colleagues arrogant ways. When the negative thoughts crept into Franks mind he would also think of Jason completing his project leaving Frank to be ridiculed by Jason.
As a result of Franks negative thinking and Frank finding a way to refocus on the positive, he was able to take his negative thoughts and turn them into useful negative thinking, allowing Frank to finish the project ahead of Jason by a few hours.
You have probably heard the saying “opposites attract”, therefore negative thoughts can attract positive thoughts if you utilize your thoughts effectively.
A certain amount of negative can be useful to each of you and please be aware that negative thoughts are extremely normal and natural. Knowing this is important, but make sure you stay away from excessive negative thoughts.
Many times negative thinking will unknowingly lead to self-examination of your personal thoughts and feelings which helps you to better understand your needs and beliefs. Each of your negative emotions or thoughts can prove to be a learning experience that teaches us invaluable lessons of life.
Negative thinking helps you in understanding your weaknesses and strengths. You can then work towards building up your strengths and talents. However, this does not mean that you should sit pondering over your negative thoughts all the time. You should try to uncover the hidden messageĀ or meaning that each negative thought carries with it.
You need to maintain a balance between your negative and positive emotions. Life is filled with all kinds of experiences, some of which have been very painful. If you know that, you cannot escape this pain by simply having a positive mindset so why not embrace such negative thoughts and learn from them?

What a great post!! The word that really stands out for me is balance! I believe sometimes we lose sight of the fact that in order for life to be in balance it does take both positive and negative thinking

I have been working on a few areas at a time in getting my mind right. I definitely believe in the power of positive thinking, and attracting what you want and do not want in life. When you combine that with faith in God it makes for a life that can make more sense.
I catch myself now when the negative self talk starts and I am more aware of it in others. Teenagers are brutal to themselves and others with the negative talk.
If you have children you have to do what you can to get them to stop the limiting talk about his or her self. It does carry over into adulthood, and that is the sad part.
I am not sure how we could stop kids from limiting talk about other kids and the teasing that seems to be pretty normal. So I think it is up to adults to be encouraging to those who cross our path in life.
Look for the good in others and look for the good in yourself.
